Recorded Books, the largest provider of unabridged audiobooks to schools and school libraries, is offering free lesson plans and, for a limited time, a free audiobook on the Recorded Books K-12 blog.
The lesson plans currently featured are for 1989 Newbery Medal winner Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices by Paul Fleischman. Hillary Wolfe, a librarian at Northview High School in Covina, California, used ideas from the National Endowment for the Humanities to write the standards-based plans. The three lessons for the book can be adapted for students from elementary through high school and for use with other poetry.
Recorded Books will post the lessons along with audio, worksheets and video examples in the coming weeks. The first lesson, which identifies how sound and form influence content and function, is available now. In addition to downloading the lesson plans and worksheets, teachers and librarians can listen to the audiobook online and, for a limited time, download the entire audiobook. .
Recorded Books encourages other educators to send in their lesson plans that incorporate audio, and submitters can win free audiobooks if their lesson plans are chosen to be featured on the blog. For more details, see Recorded Books K-12 Blog
