Play Board Games, Record Minutes in the Million Minute Family Challenge

BELOIT, Wis. – Thousands of game players across the country will be watching the clock while playing board and card games through Dec. 31 so they can log their game-playing time in the Million Minute Family Challenge™.

Patch Products has announced the start of the seventh annual Million Minute Family Challenge and is encouraging everyone to play board games for a combined total of 1 million minutes. The challenge, which started Sept. 1 and runs through Dec. 31, encourages interaction and communication among family and friends by setting a national goal of playing games for a total of 1 million minutes. The goal might seem high, but if 1,000 families or groups in each of the 50 states play a board game for 20 minutes, that’s 1,000,000 minutes. Game players recorded 1,253,770 minutes last year.

Patch, a leading manufacturer of board and card games, sponsors the challenge each year. This year’s supporters who are helping to bring awareness to the Million Minute Family Challenge include KOA, Great Wolf Lodge, Blue Harbor Resort and MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers).

Everyone can participate by playing games and logging minutes at www.millionminute.com. The Web site is filled with fun ideas about how to participate, games to play and educational information about the benefits of family time, the history of games and how to use games in the classroom.

Games are a perfect way for people to take a break from their busy lives, said Beth Muehlenkamp, senior promotions coordinator at Patch Products.

“So many games can be played in about 20 minutes,” Muehlenkamp said. “Taking a small break and playing a game with kids means so much to them. The time spent sitting face-to-face laughing and playing a game is priceless.”

If your family or group is interested in being recognized as a Million Minute Family Challenge participating group, visit www.millionminute.com and click on the sign-up now button. We will keep track of your minutes and recognize your group on the Web site.
