Skipping Stones

Where else could you read a true story by a 14 year old Indonesian girl, a poem by a 9 year old Japanese boy and see pictures drawn by kids from all over the globe? Skipping Stones describes itself as “a non-profit children’s magazine that encourages cooperation, creativity and celebration of cultural and linguistic diversity”. AND there’s no ads! AND kids can send in their own submissions! Deadline for their 2010 Youth Honor Awards is June 25. Ten winners will be published in the Sept-Oct issue. Submit your writing and art in 7 different categories (kids only – 17 and under). See http://www.skippingstones.org for more information on the contest and the magazine. If your family is interested in cultures around the world don’t miss this publication. Also a great tool for true interdisciplinary learning.

We are proud of defending the 1st amendment and standing up to a frivolous lawsuit, however, this civil liberties exercise temporarily ground HEM to a halt, we are coming back strong with the May-June/12 issue.

Looking Forward
