The 2008 Arbor Day National Poster Contest is underway. Fifth-graders from throughout the U.S. are invited to share their artwork for this annual event, which is sponsored by Toyota.The 2008 contest theme is, “Trees are Terrific Inside and Out!” To enter the contest students, teachers or parents can visit http://www.arborday.org for specific contest rules and entry guidelines. The site includes extensive, downloadable activity guides. These guides are chockfull of classroom activities that teachers can integrate into the contest.
The national first-place winner, his/her parents and teacher will win a trip to the home of Arbor Day and the Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City, Neb., a $1,000 savings bond, an Arbor Day Foundation Lifetime Membership, as well as a tree planted in his or her honor.
The national first place winner’s teacher will receive $200. Among the prizes to be awarded to the second- and third-place winners are savings bonds and framed copies of his/her artwork. Prizes will also be awarded at the state level.
