Jim Hodges Audio Books

I’ve just discovered an interesting product I think many on this list

might be interested. Homeschooling Dad, Navy retiree, and award-winning

actor Jim Hodges has been producing unabridged recordings of the G. A.

Henty historical novels since 1999. There are currently 12 titles

available, the most popular being Beric the Briton – A Tale of Ancient

Rome, In Freedom’s Cause – The Story of William Wallace and Robert the

Bruce, and With Lee in Virginia – A Tale of the American Civil War.

Jim has also recorded 4 inspirational Lamplighter Publishing books for

younger audiences: All 3 Boys of Grit titles as well as True Stories of

Great Americans for Young Americans.

In addition to all of that, he is also re-releasing numerous educational

Old Time Radio Shows. One series, entitled “You Are There” dramatically

recreates historical events with numerous actors, sound effects and

musical accompaniment. The show pretends that radio reporters were on

hand to witness the Fall of Troy, The Signing of the Magna Carta, Drake

Defeating the Spanish Armada, The Charge of the Light Brigade, and

American history stories like Columbus Discovering America, the

Declaration of Independence, The Defense of the Alamo, and the Oklahoma

Land Run. The third release is called “Horizon’s West – A Tale of the

Lewis and Clark Expedition” which presents a dramatic re-telling of the

amazing exploration of these two men who exhibited, in the words of Thomas

Jefferson “Undaunted Courage.”

All of these resources provide excellent recreations of history that

entertain and educate. Please check out these wonderful resources

You can rely on commonly-held descriptions; for example, we generally all agree what blue looks like, but what about cobalt, aqua, navy, cyan, sapphire, azure, indigo, cerulean, turquoise or cornflower? It’s […]
