From the site owner, Susan Metalis:
Free Educational Clip Art: A public domain work is a creative (i.e. painting, music, piece of writing etc.) work that is not protected by copyright and which may be freely used by everyone. This means that the work belongs to everyone. It may be copied, altered and published .The reasons that the work is not protected include:
- The term of copyright for the work has expired;
- The author failed to satisfy the legal requirements to retain the copyright
- The author has placed the work in the public domain.
- The work is a work of the U.S. Government.
- Published before 1923
The clip art that is offered on these pages is in the public domain. It was either created by me or gathered from public domain archives. In many cases I altered the public work to make it more useful for educational purposes.
