I only ask because a link showed up from Google’s alert service, and my understanding is that state registration of homeschooled children is not part of Indiana law.

Wow, I expected to go there and see a form that you print and mail, not an online form.
Since it isn’t required by law to enroll, why would anyone want to?? Any Hoosiers have an explanation?

Unfortunately many homeschoolers in Indiana are reporting enrollment to the IDOE using this form. This is one of the issues that comes up often on the IndianaHomeschoolers list. I feel like a broken record urging people not to go beyond what the law requires. More of the new homeschoolers who join the list have been told by school officials that they need to “register” when they transfer out of the public schools. There are also those homeschoolers who feel that sending in this form adds to the numbers and gives us some sort of credibility.
The IDOE has begun asking colleges to ask for a school number, although I haven’t heard of any who are requiring it. We know that there are several voices in the state government urging greater regulation of homeschooling. This may be something that they are instigating.
