The Advocate, Baton-Rouge, Louisiana, 18 January 2007, Judges: Evaluate student Parents challenge board on grade level
The student was expelled from eighth grade in fall 2005 for 12 months and was allowed to return to the same grade at the start of this school year on probationary status.
She and her parents contended she should be allowed to advance to the ninth grade by Nov. 1 because of the home-schooling she received in the interim.
The family had to battle in court to get the school officials to consider the work.
When officials did so, then presented their conclusions at the October hearing, they determined the student should stay in the eighth grade, where she remains.
