Home-school defies archaic stereotypes, 29 July 2007, Tennessean.com Two decades ago, the idea of home-schooling a child was almost reprehensible. It called to mind images of overzealous, religious parents loading their offspring with misinformation and protecting them from the wolves roaming inside government-run schools.
Today, that image seems to be nothing more than an annoying stereotype shrugged off by parents who are simply looking for a customized way to educate their children.
Home educators are still required to jump through a series of state-mandated hoops, but many parents in Sumner County seem to agree that the district’s public schools have been more than willing to work with them to make the transition as seamless as possible.
