Following your passions are great reasons to homeschool.
Jerry Casteel is on his way.
From the Rapid City Journal By Joe O’Sullivan
17-year-old is South Dakota’s new chess champion
Casteel, who is home-schooled, has been teaching chess in a few area schools, and he hopes that will lead to a resurgence in South Dakota.
And while he expects to graduate from his home school studies in six weeks, Casteel isn’t keen right now on college. He’s already getting job offers from chess websites and also to coach.
“Right now, they’re offering me enough to make not want to go to college,” he said.
“My dream actually, my ultimate goal, is to be a grandmaster one day,” Casteel said. “But my short-term goal is to reach expert level.”
His dreams have a good chance of becoming a reality.
