South Carolina Homeschool Bill Killed

WLTX, in Columbia, reports this below regarding HB 3478, a bill would have changed SC homeschooling law, leaving less positive options for homeschoolers.

Monday, Brennon told News19 he sent a letter to the chairman of the education committee “asking the bill remain in committee without a hearing, which kills this bill.”

I thought bills weren’t “killed” until the bill sponsorship was dropped.  But this looks like good news for South Carolina homeschoolers.

Update: See comments. Carolina Homeschooler’s forum also has updates. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Its not over for us here in SC. The orginal sponsers have just backed up to redo this bill. Several others have made it clear they do not support this bill……IN ITS CURRENT FORM. Brannon & Horne have made it clear they want a registry & testing of Homeschoolers. We are blessed to have at least 1 homeschool father on the committee overseeing this bill. But is it FAR from over. This bill is not really dead. It can be brought up at ANY time. It will not be really dead until the session ends in 2014

We have a rally at the State House on Thurs. Feb. 21 10am-12 to show our support for those who really have supported us.

Thank you for the update! Good, good wishes on this situation. I know how hard it is to take time from family to fix these Capitol problems. But at least, the kids are getting hands-on civic lessons.

Hard nothing! We are talking FIELD TRIP!!!!! The kids are looking forward to it ;~) You should see the pics on Facebook of families whose kids are helping email, write, label & mail letters, and so much more! What SC lawmakers see as a way to restrict HS here (it would also raise the cost of HS in SC around $1000 due to the regulations) HS mothers see as a Civics lesson & field trip to the State House!
