The Bandz are now contraband. Schools in several states, including New York, Texas, Florida and Massachusetts, have blacklisted Silly Bandz, those stretchy, colorful bracelets that are creeping up the forearms of school kids across the U.S. And starting this week, all 800-some kids at my son’s elementary school in Raleigh, N.C., were commanded to leave at home their collections of rubber band–like bracelets, which retail for about $5 per pack of 24. What could possibly be so insidious about a cheap silicone bracelet?

I wonder if they were becoming a status symbol and lead to fights/bullying.
I do find it absurd that they would ban them though. Would like to hear the states reasoning on it.
Some of my friends who work in the public school system (middle school) said that the bands were indicators of what sexual favors a girl would be willing to perform.
I have heard the same for several years.
My child currently attends a NYC private school. Teacher felt trading the bands were too distracting in class.I have also heard the reason for banning them is fear they cut off circulation.
No talk at all about sexualy favors, but then again my child attends a single sex school and is under 10.
