Clemson home-school mom resigns as chairman of state Board of Education

Kristin Maguire, a Clemson home-school mom who became chairman of the state Board of Education in January, has resigned from the board, ending a nine-year tenure. Advertisement
She sent a letter to Gov. Mark Sanford, who appointed her, and to members of the board, saying she was leaving because of “increasing demands I am experiencing in my family life.”
Maguire couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday.
Tim Moore, an attorney and former high school football coach from Barnwell who has been chairman-elect, will become chairman.
He said Maguire’s sudden departure came as a surprise.
