Stay-At-Home Moms Forced To Re-enter Workforce-NPR

A number of stay-at-home Moms are re-entering the workforce as a result of the current economic turmoil. “Economommies” now find themselves partially supporting to their families as earnings from only one parent become increasingly inadequate. Regular parenting contributor Jolene Ivey, a mother of five who is also an elected official, is joined by fellow working moms Felicia Bradford, a mom of two, and Melissa Day, a mom of three, to discuss re-entering the workforce. It’s that simple.

Felicia Bradford is a homeschooler.  Her husband is a teacher and when he gets home from school, she’s very often heading out the door for her other job as an occupational therapist.

Her big work day is Sunday.  When asked, Felicia noted there was no “head trip” for her from their kids as far as ‘mommy guilt’ is concerned.  She’s home with the kids all day and now their children get to spend time with their dad that wasn’t a necessary arrangement before. The “kids are adjusting well”.

That is one of the gifts of homeschooling.

Her husband wants to stay home with the kids now, so it appears this is a solution that worked successfully all around.  Maybe they’ll be able to re-work the arrangements to everyone’s satisfaction.

The interview was much appreciated by this homeschooler.  Felicia did a wonderful job representing homeschoolers and most importantly, her individual family.

I read many different articles on this site and enjoyed them immensely. There is a lot of good information out there for homeschoolers and parents. I write about many different topics as well at my site: http://www.naturallyshelly.blogspot.com. I am always looking for current information and topics to discuss that pertain to homeschoolers and parents and anyone interested in using natural and organic products to help keep their families healthy. Your article is very interesting and I appreciate the information. Hope you and others will visit my site as well–we can compare notes! God bless, Shelly

Staying InformedThe issues facing homeschoolers today are fundamentally the same as 30 years ago when HEM was first published. While communication is easier the underlying social question is, can parents be trusted with their kids? Our political positions will support this answer in the affirmative. But this is not always the case nor is it always easy to un […]
