Maddie Blythe is moving on from her former private school to home education – giving her more opportunities to play football. From My Fox Atlanta:
Girl football player leaving private school
On Monday, Maddie updated her “Let Her Play” Facebook page that she has decided to be home-schooled this year. She hopes to play sports through recreation and travel leagues.
In June, KSB TV reported on the private Christian school determining Maddie Blythe could not play on the football team, even after her successes.
Girl: School cites Bible for kicking her off football team By Jeff Dore
“My mom counts it that I had five sacks. I count it as four,” Maddy told Channel 2’s Jeff Dore, talking about her job on the football
field: tackling the guy with the ball.
“The entire crowd thought it was one of their boys, and when they saw my number and looked at the roster and saw it was me, standing ovation right there,” Maddy said about her first sack.
Her mom, a former cop, was worried at first but quickly learned her daughter could handle the game with the best.
Maddie said this on her Facebook page: Let Her Play:
My mom gave me four choices and said the decision was up to me. The four choices were: 1) Strong Rock Christian School knowing they refuse to change their policy, 2) A different private school that would allow me to play football, 3) An online homeschooling program, 4) Public school. The only stipulation I was given was to make the choice that would help create the best ME I can be.
Her focus is also on academics, with plans to be an attorney. Maddie is also training as a football kicker to keep her opportunities wide open. Smart girl. Great Tackle.
