If “adequate yearly progress” is tracked, then it isn’t homeschooling

Girdwood high school educational program cancelled, 10 August 2008, Turnagain Times, Girdwood, Alaska

An option currently available for Girdwood high school students not interested in attending a public high school in Anchorage is to enroll in a home-school program through the Anchorage School District’s Family Partnership Charter School.

1.  Homeschooling ‘participation’ is decided by the family, not by a lottery.

2.  Homeschoolers are exempt from the Adequate Yearly Progress requirements of the No Child Left Behind law.
(Ctrl+F and type in “protections”)

Family Partnership Charter School: New Families Getting Started

1.  Fill out Lottery Application and SMS Enrollment Form

Anchorage School District:  Alternative schools and programs

The school district uses a lottery system to provide an equal opportunity for students who request participation in an alternative program or school for which the number of applications exceeds the number of available openings. Approval or denial is based on space availability and grade level and gender balance. Lotteries are held two times each year.

Family Partnership Charter School Goals 2006 – 2007

Goal 2:

To attain Adequate Yearly Progress for the second continuous year, while increasing scores overall to 61% proficient in math and increasing the Low Income Subgroup in math to the math target with at least an 8% increase.
