Hat tip to Amani on the Heidelberg Homeschoolers email list:
- WDR Fernsehen (WDR Television), Köln, Germany, 16 May 2006, “Schule zuhause” (School at home)   Â
It is seven-thirty in the morning, mother, father and four children have eaten breakfast and the two children – Philemon (9) and Laura (7) – would usually have to go to school. But they don’t do that. Because their parents don’t want that. Because, for them, the schools are not good enough. Philemon and Laura have school satchels. But they don’t have to carry them. Their school is just a meter away from the kitchen table. Their teacher is called mummy and the teacher for social studies is called granny. The parents break the compulsory schooling law. They know and accept judgements imposing a fine. One day the family is accompanied by Martin Blachmann [the television reporter].
This program is probably quite a breakthrough as homeschooling is against the laws of the various states making up the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland).
I look forward to the email list discussion concerning the program.
