I recently read that the UK government plans on changing how they moderate home educators in the UK. You can read more about the situation in England here at Freedom For Children to Grow – http://www.freedomforchildrentogrow.org/
While at the site above I also learned of a wonderful effort created by one Mother in England to raise awareness about homeschooling, called Hands Up 4 Home Ed – http://handsup4homeed.blogspot.com/ Here children can express how they feel about homeschooling by sending in an outline of their hands that they have decorated. They are asked to put their name in each palm and to write a wish for their lives and for their education at home. Whether you decide to participate or not, the many hands are precious to see.
From the site we learn a bit more about Hands Up 4 Home Ed
- “We are fortunate to cater for our children in a unique one to one situation that can never happen in schools. Indeed Tony Blairs campaign for “Every Child Matters” is already our belief, but we really mean that each one of our children matter, home educating families have already been effectively living and believing this for years. The government trying to undermine our freedom of choice is undermining the family blocks this country needs to be stronger not weaker.”
Visit http://handsup4homeed.blogspot.com to learn how you can get involved as well. I wrote to the webmistress who tells me you do not have to reside in the UK to participate. All those adults, friends and family and children who support home education are welcome to participate!
