New York public services for homeschoolers (almost) reinstated

The legislation is waiting for the governor’s signature.

Well, it looks like common sense has prevailed. Today the New York State Senate passed a bill reinstating these services to homeschooled children. The Assembly passed the companion bill on Monday. Now all that remains is the governor’s signature.

    Homeschool parents get Albany relief, 20 June 2008, New York Daily News, New York, New York

    Parents who homeschool special-needs kids are rejoicing after state lawmakers voted to make school districts pick up the tab for therapy and other services.

    The state Senate and Assembly passed bills this week that authorize school districts to pay for the special services of about 450 kids statewide.

    The legislation, which awaits Gov. Paterson’s signature, will reverse a decision earlier this year that forced parents to pay for therapy if they are homeschooling their kids.

HEM is available only in its digital version until start of the school year this fall. The next digital issue being the upcoming May-June, 2012 issue.

Preliminary plans are to have a print edition back with the September-October, 2012 issue. We are looking for 2 corporate level sponsors for this special edition, contact us today.
