“The “Five Ws” (and one H) were memorialized by Rudyard Kipling in his “Just So Stories” (1902), in which a poem accompanying the tale of “The Elephant’s Child” opens with the lines:
I keep six honest serving-men
(They taught me all I knew);
Their names are What and Why and When And How and Where and Who. “
