A short sidebar piece in the May issue of Reader’s Digest, part of an article on The Next Big Things, refers to homeschooling as part of The Future of Education as outlined by David Kelley, founder of the IDEO design firm and the Design School Stanford, which includes a K-12 lab. Kelley writes that in classrooms of the future, education will be custom-made for each student, with computers custom programmed for each child’s learning style and speed. He then adds:
“Homeschooling may also continue to increase for this reason–you can tailor the teaching to the child.”
He also expects to see more hands-on projects and group work, and notes:
“More students will go out into the community to learn from business owners.”
HEM took a Closer Look at that idea with a collection of resources and articles.
