Pierce said despite the misconceptions, most people aren’t home-schooling because they are escaping public schools.

“Many of them are home-schooling because they think it is the very best option for their kids,” she said. “We’re just typical families trying to have our kids educated the best way possible for us.”

Quinney said she has seen improvements in how her children grasp material.

“It’s the best decision I’ve made for my children,” she said.
