Home school group builds winning robot, 15 November 2007, Tri City Tribune, Marked Tree, Arkansas The BEST (Boosting, Engineering, Science, Technology) is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, science and technology through participation in a sports-like science and engineering-based robotics competition. Participating students are from schools, home school groups and organizations such as scouts and 4-H Clubs….
This year’s BEST robotics theme was “Mission to Mars.” Students were given the following scenario: A base on Mars has been constructed using construction robots. However, food, medicine and other supplies must be sent to the base before astronauts arrive. To do that, ASV (Automated Supply Vehicles) must be sent to Mars and uploaded by robots. Because of the freezing conditions on Mars, the robots have a three minute time limitation or else they will freeze.
