The Northern Lebanon School District athletic director is concerned about proposed legislation that would allow students at private and parochial schools to participate in sports at public schools.
“This will permit private schools to do even more aggressive recruiting by telling students they can still participate in sports at their local school,†Rob Snyder told the school board last night.
The ‘they pay taxes’ argument still doesn’t address what direct benefits singles, couples with no children, empty-nesters, and retirees get from their contributions to the system.
- “They’re taxpayers and support our schools with taxes. Why shouldn’t they get more than a bus ride?†he said, referring to a state mandate that requires public schools to provide transportation for students in private schools. “If they meet standards like our students must, I have no problem with it.â€
