Homeschooling parents in action for December

Goshen Chronicle, Goshen county, New York, 18 December 2006, Family invites community home to watch global warming movie

Chester screening joins thousands nationwide

Chester Lee Squires-Sussman and her husband, Michael, of Chester are inviting the community to their home at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16, to watch “An Inconvenient Truth,” Al Gore’s movie about global warming.

“Now is the time to learn the truth and to act on climate change,” she said. “People are getting together in living rooms all over the country to watch the film on DVD and have a national conference call to discuss next steps and start seriously mobilizing people. We’ll even get a chance to talk to Al Gore and ask him questions. Teens and young adults are strongly encouraged to attend as this is an environmental science project for our home-schooling high schoolers.”

Family Security Matters, Ridgewood, New Jersey, 21 December 2006, A Battle We Cannot Afford to Lose

As the home schooling mother of an elementary school age child, I am very concerned about the moral compass, such as it is, of the entertainment industry. We carefully monitor what television, radio and music programs are watched and listened to in our home. While some may call it “sheltering”, I call it “responsible”. I do not wish my boy, at age seven, to be subjected to Paris Hilton’s latest scandal or to another Congressman’s disgrace.
