“Unschooling: How Good Morning America Got It All Wrong” is the title of a story at Huffington Post by filmmaker, writer, and photographer Lee Stranahan: “I know I’m naïve to expect the mainstream media to cover a subject like “radical unschooling”as anything other than a freak show, but the recent hatchet job that George Stephanopoulos and Good Morning America did on the topic was so hopelessly biased that it’d make Rupert Murdoch blush.”
Stranahan is working on a film about unschooling.

Oh Helen! I appreciate the man’s work. But as a complete aside, I find it amusing to read of Sandra as a pioneer when she is a contemporary.
I know what you mean, Lori, and I chuckled to myself remembering when Sandra first started writing her unschooling column for us. Actually, I think you were probably waaay out there ahead of ALL of us with your pioneering presence on AOL! Good ol’ days, eh, old friend?
Lee, they did a much better follow up Tuesday morning!
Helen, you asked me to do a column because I was already writing and being published many other places, and thanks; I appreciated that. It was fun. I’ve never stopped doing what I was doing before either of you “met me” though!
Well… No, simply being published elsewhere was never a good enough reason to be invited to write for HEM. I asked you because what you were writing made sense and was helping people figure out how to live with their kids without all the schoolish trappings. The comments following the GMA and HuffPost pieces have been alarming to a certain extent, showcasing how little innate trust people have in kids these days. But on the other hand, it’s also very encouraging to see how many people do understand! I think, overall, the message is getting through, perhaps in part because so many people are searching for new answers to the old questions.
Well hi Sandra, been a long time. Hope life has treated you well.
