How true. And how terribly important.

One of the treasures homeschooling brings us isn't readily apparent until we lose an elder. That treasure is time. We're not limited to school vacation days and the hours left over after homework is finished. The world is never quite the same to us after we've lost someone we love but time together gives us something of incalculable value. Memories.

We lost my mother two years ago and my father's health is declining, but my children have a repertoire of stories---funny, ironic and tender---to carry with them. More importantly, they have built a sense of who they are in part from their grandparents' influence. Thank goodness we've had the time to lavish on what is important to us.
