Home School Non-Discrimination Act

HEM blogger Daryl Cobranchi has provided the complete text of the recently revived, HSLDA-written bill for a Home School Non-Discrimination Act, so I won’t replicate it here. But this is a bill that should be killed – again – for the same reasons we’ve made very clear before. However, this time around, a section on military recruitment has been added which states a child will be eligible for recruitment if: “(5) The graduate has provided the Secretary concerned with a third-party verification letter of the graduate’s home-school status by the Home School Legal Defense Association or a State or county home-school association or organization.”

One point we made clear before – and will reiterate now – is this: While it is an easier short hand appellation, the acronym “HONDA” is a humanizing term for this bill and for a political faction that has not been working in the best interests of all homeschooling families. In communicating with others about this bill we urge referring to the bill number and not using the “warm fuzzy” term.

If anyone needs more information about why this bill is still a bad idea, here are some links to what HEM’s writers and associates had to say about the previous incarnation:

The issues facing homeschoolers today are fundamentally the same as 30 years ago when HEM was first published. But this is not always the case nor is it always easy to understand the bes […]
