HEM’s Support Groups Liaison, Mary Nix, has posted an important and compelling piece at her Support Groups weblog about a recent court decision in California. A few excerpted quotes:

“…Home education is one of the last great bastions of freedom for families in this country and … it is vital that we actively participate in protecting ALL of our freedoms.”

“Many in education and government do believe that they are responsible for each child and the type of citizens they become. This case appears to be a manifestation of that philosophy.”

“At the very least, this 9th court opinion calls for parents everywhere to examine the rights and responsibilities that are connected with the educational choice their families are involved in.”

“…living within a family in freedom is a fundamental right and … government and public education should be responsible to it’s citizens, not the other way around.”
