Laundry Day

In a post to the HEM Networking discussion list titled “Airing the Dirty Linen”, indefatigable HSLDA-tracker Mary McCarthy expresses her opinion of last week’s NPR interview on the situation surrounding Patrick Henry College. Mary writes: “Ms. Gross continually referred to Mr. Farris as the President of Patrick Henry College leading me has to wonder whether he actually has stepped down, as has been widely reported. According to the Chronicle of Higher Education, Dr. Graham Walker has already been named as the new President of PHC and Mr. Farris is quoted, ‘If I’m the problem – well, I’m going to be gone.’”

Gone? Oh really? In an article for Christianity Today titled Shakeup at Patrick Henry College – in which Farris also states “If I’m the problem – well, I’m going to be gone.” – writer Sheryl H. Blunt notes: “Effective July 1, Graham Walker, previously vice president for academic affairs and dean of Oklahoma Wesleyan University, will replace Farris as president, while Farris will assume the college’s chancellor position.”

Chancellor, eh? Interesting.

Chancellor: A Chancellor is the head of a university. Other titles are sometimes used, such as Rector, President and Provost.

What part of “being gone” is merely switching titles filed under?

Also interesting was this indication that Farris knows things which most mortal men do not:

“Farris, a Baptist minister, has publicly expressed views that have shocked some professors and students. ‘He said St. Augustine was in hell,’ said Root. ‘I heard it with my own ears.’”

Wonder how he knows where St. Augustine is? That seems a little over the top, even for him.
