Who: Home Educators Network of Rhode Island will be sponsoring a conference for anyone who is interested in home education.

The following is a schedule of the conference. It should be a wonderful day filled with lots of great information, smiles and warmth at this intimate setting.
Speakers:

10:30 Introduction: Ben Ryan, a young adult who has educated himself at home and abroad with the assistance and nurturance of his parents. Ben presently is pursuing his passion of baking artisan breads in preparation of the opening of Bens Bakery in Mapleville Farm, Mapleville,R.I. Ben is also pursuing his career as a musician along with his three siblings, Mike, Casey and Emma Ryan, a.k.a. Fishing With Finnegan. http://www.fishingwithfinnegan.com

10:45: The mixing of homeschool and religion - Cathy Eisa, a mom of five children, avid home educator, will discuss her unique perspective of her experience with regard to home schooling and religion.

11:15 “I’m overwhelmed” - Mary Ryan Mary , married to Tom, and mom of four young adults, Mike (23) Ben (21), Casey (19), and Emma (17) and seasoned home educator will share some of her experiences with you. Sometimes making the choice to homeschool your children can be overwhelming and frustrating for various reasons. To know that one is not alone is a great thing!

11:45 A Father’s Perspective - Tom Fantasia, married to Yvette is a seasoned unschooling dad of five beautiful children who are all growing toward young adulthood. Tom and Yvette are self-employed, entreprenuer nurturing parents who have encouraged their young ones to explore their loves.

12:30 Young ones interactive panel discussion - Young ones (ages 9-12) who have been seducated at home and beyond(smile) will share their experience (both positive and negative) of their unique education.

2:00 Reluctant Patriots Part II by Pam Puniello - Pam is married to Paul, seasoned educators as a way of life and parents of three beautiful daughters, Abby, Grace and Tess. Pam will share with you some of her own experience with school department policies, the laws within which those policies are to abide, and bring awareness to parents as to how important it is to keep a watchful eye on the various school departments actions regarding the development and implementation of home education policies.

2:45 A public teacher’s perspective of choosing education for their own children - Joe Wallace & Kayrn Valcourt will share their unique perspective regarding their decision to educate their own children rather than place them in a public school setting. Joe is Cranston public school teacher, actor and all around energetic guy,who with Kayrn, also very energetic and bright bring their own perspective and the family dynamics that sometimes challenge and/or empowers their decision to home school.

3:30 Teen/young adult interactive panel discussion - A favorite of parents who have previously attended conferences, this is a panel of young people who have been homeschooled who are willing to share their experiences and reassure parents that it’ll “all be okay!”.

4:30 closing Ben Ryan

Northern Ohio Co-op’s “NOT Back To School Party”!!

ATTENTION: HOMESCHOOLERS

Please come to the Northern Ohio Co-op’s “NOT Back To School Party”!!

When: Tuesday, August 26th from 10AM-Noon

Where: The Independence Library
6361 Selig Blvd.

We will be making schultuetes, or giant paper cones, which are an old world tradition that German families have done for over 200 years. The cones are filled with school supplies, candy and other treats that are presented on a child’s first day of school. Mom’s should bring a paper or plastic bag of assorted small school supplies which we will place inside the cones so your child will have a fun surprise to open at home.

EVERYTHING is supplied and free of charge.

All ages welcome.

Liberty is Coming to Connecticut

National Home Education Legal Defense (NHELD) is hosting Connecticut’s first annual “Connecticut Liberty Forum” and it will be held September 27-28 in Bristol, Connecticut. This event will be open to the public and to the media. The event runs from 8 am Saturday until 8 pm and then continues on Sunday from 8 am until 2 pm.

Deborah Stevenson, Executive Director of National Home Education Legal Defense, Attorney Mike Agranoff, CT Attorney who works on DCF and parental rights cases, Alan Schaeffer, Executive Director of Separation of School and State and others will be speaking.

NHELD believe that America’s greatest strength is our freedom, and its protection requires our effort in all areas. The purpose of this forum is to promote liberty, to increase education concerning our Constitutional rights, and to create a call to action to protect those rights. At the Connecticut Liberty Forum, we will gather together in one location the most pre-eminent people in their field who are leading today’s fight against the erosion of our liberty. We will be featuring speakers and workshops addressing every aspect of liberty and freedom, including freedom of speech, second amendment rights, protection of eminent domain abuse, parental rights, issues of U.S. sovereignty, and much much more. We hope you will join us and be part of this brand new and exciting event.

Parent Educators and Kids (PEAK) is hosting a fun-filled retreat for homeschooling families on July 25-26

homeschooling families on July 25-26.

Informational sessions will address issues important to new homeschoolers and to
families homeschooling teenagers as well as explore ways that widely available
community resources support home education. Children’s and teen activities will be
