Question: What do our children really need to learn. And by when?
There it is. Blowing the doors off my little schoolhouse and nearly obliterating the entire structure. What do they need to learn, and by when? That is the question.
No, my kid didn’t necessarily know Daniel Boone and westward expansion yet. But he already knew who the Founding Fathers were and why they mattered. He knew about and was fascinated by the Revolutionary War. But he also knew Greek myths, Mount Olympus, had a favorite Greek God (Hades, because he had Cerberus). He knew about Roman soldiers, their weaponry, military style, leaders and civilization.
