Barbara Page, wife of (and infatuated with) Charles A. Page (owner of the world-famous, soft-serve ice cream store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania called "Page Dairy Mart.") Barbara is heavily involved with the homeschooling support group - The McKeesport Area Homeschoolers. She has six children born 83, 85, 87, 89, 92, and 94 who have only been in school to give talks to the students there (poor things)! One of her children has special needs.

She speaks in local homeschooling conferences and curriculum fairs on a variety of topics, hosts a Homeschooling Message Board on the Internet called Homeschooling Special Needs Children at http://www.kaleidoscapes.com/special/ and occasionally hosts chats on the Microsoft Network Homeschooling Forum. And for those of you wondering -- "Yes, my house is always a mess....."

You can email her at: pageclan@classic.msn.com

HOMESCHOOLING AUTISTIC CHILDREN

The AUT-2B-HOME list is a collection of families who are homeschooling their autistic spectrum children full-time or part-time. Our conversations encompass both education and autism: developing programs that meet individual needs and learning styles, teaching methods, curriculums, resources (books, webbsites, organizations, etc), autism therapies, homeschool laws, IDEA laws as applied to homeschoolers, homeschool support groups, addressing lack of support from family and professionals, environmental issues, diet, nutrition, etc. The atmosphere of the list is intended to be positive and supportive with exchange of information, brainstorming and sharing of triumphs and tragedies highly encouraged.

Members of the list have experience with a variety of educational techniques (ABA, TEACCH, Options, computer curriculums, eclectic, unschooling, etc). Members are also from several countries. The list is secular, but religious expression is not forbidden or attacked. While the list is intended for homeschoolers, families who are not currently homeschooling, but who are considering this option, are welcome to subscribe so they can learn more.

The list is private and cannot be accessed by non-members. To subscribe, send a biography to the listowner, Tammy Glaser aut-2b-home-request@maelstrom.stjohns.edu

NATHHAN has a support network of over 7,500. Some of these are homeschool professionals willing to help, some are companies having an interest in serving challenged homeschoolers but most are families, just like yourself, homeschooling special needs children.

Membership includes:

NATHHAN NEWS - This 72 page quarterly published magazine comes out Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer. Some ongoing features are Resource Reviews, articles from parents and professionals, Deuteronomy Dads, Family Introductions, and lots of letters from families.

Members can advertise used homeschooling resources, therapy equipment, etc for free in the classifed section called The Family Exchange.

FAMILY DIRECTORY - Although some of us will never meet this side of heaven, we can still encourage and share a bit of our lives with each other. The directory is updated once a year and is available to members, willing to be in the directory.

RESOURCES - We now carry some very helpful resources for challenged learners, with discounts available for NATHHAN members on many items.

LENDING LIBRARY - The library currently has over 350 titles and is operated through the mail for NATHHAN members. Members pay postage to and from library.

Yearly membership as of Jan. 1st, 1996 is a $25.00 or more donation. NATHHAN's actual cost is $35.00 per family. We rely on donations from others in the Christian community to provide the difference, thereby keeping the cost down so more homes can afford membership.
